Thelma Lee Morrison Hamelwright Nielson


Thelma story starts when  Lee Morrison and Rosie Irene Redmond  married, Oct 9, 1921,  Perkinston, Harrisson County, Mississippi to Lee and Irene Morrison.  Married a year a son Luis Lee Morrison was born October 31, 1922  in Bothwell, Greene County, Mississippi.

Irene and Luis.  Luis passed away March 6, 1924. 



Thelma was born May 29, 1925  in Wiggins, Stone County Mississippi .

Around the age of  4 Lee, Irene and Thelma moved to Arizonia for employment.  Irene's father, and few of Irene sibblings lived there.   Irene left Arizona in the early 1930's and took Thelma to Helper, Carbon County, Utah to help her brother, Luis Roland Redmond (a younger brother) and wife LaPreal.  Roland was sick and his wife LaPreal ran a dress shop.  LaPreal had 3 children Edward 11, Gordon 10 and Wallace 7 Christian.   Irene helped at their home and the dress shop.  After Roland died October 7, 1930,   Irene sought employment in Price, Carbon County, Utah .  Lucille Dress Shop hired Irene and also let Irene and Thelma moved in with them.  The Moss family consisted of  Lucille, Florence and Mom Moss. Mom Moss took care of the jewely counter.  Lucille owned the store and Florence worked within the store.   They took Irene and Thelma in.  They loved Thelma very much and dressed her very cute.  Irene and Thelma was very thankful for their kindness. 

Her father Lee Morrison went back to Mississippi and eventually married Lottie Leota Bond.  They had 3 children.   Onyx was born September 2, 1937 in Wiggians, Stone County, Mississippi and died the same day.  Billie Ray Morrison was born 28 September 1938 in Wiggins, Stone County, Mississippi and died June 27, 1979 at a hospital in Hattiesburg, Forrest, Mississippi, at the age of 38.  Gladys Bernice Morrison born Oct 22, 1944 died the following day October 23, 1944.  



Thelma lived with the Moss family until Irene married Art Hamelwright September 4, 1933.  Thelma was never adopted  but went by the last name Hamelwrigh)t because it was easer for her.  When Irene and Art married they moved to Keniworth, Utah.  Thelma met John durning school and he would walk from Castle Gate to Keniworth just to see Thelma. 




 Irene met Art Hamelwright (Newberry) and they married September 4, 1933 and moved to Kenilworth, Carobon County, Utah to make their home.

Abt 1938 She was a 2nd attentent in a  city pagant.




Nineth grade, Thelma graduatied from Spring Glen Junior High's Class of 1941, May 27 1941 8:00 p.m. at Spring Glen, Utah.   Graduating Class had 47 graduates.
Teneth grade (1941-1942) she attend Price Junior High School and lived in Kennelworth, Utah.  
Eleventh grade (1942-1943)
She graduated from Carbon High School in the class of 1944.

After Thelma graduated from High School John signed up to go into the Navy.  Thelma waited for him and while on leave in September they took a bus to Preston, Idaho where they could get married with out a blood test.  Everyone said their goodbys and they were off to be married the next day September 30, 1944.  They returned home where John had to leave to back to the Navy and where Mom would stay in Keniworth.

Discharged from U.S. Navy, June 30, 1947 John returned home to Thelma.   they built their first home by the Country Club in Spring Glen.  Irene and Art would pull the nails from the lumber that John would load pick up from old homes and then returned home to continue the cycle over.

Thelma was baptize on November 1947, in Price, Utah.  Was baptised at the LDS Tabernacle

Second Daughter Born, August 25, 1952, Linda Lee Nielson.   Lee was after her grandfather Lee Morrison.



Third Daughter Born, January 6, 1954, Carole Jo Nielson



  
June 3, 1956 Thelma received her first Temple Recommend.  June 8, 1956,  John James Nielson married Thelma Lee Morrison for Time and All Eternity in the Manti Temple, Manti, Utah.

Thelma was given a Blessing by Fay E. Thacker Patriarch of the North Carbon Stake February 15, 1959.



Thelma had a pug dog growing up.  She loved dogs.  
Around 1960 we had a dog that was a bull dog.  He would go to the Elementry School and eat the childrens  school lunches and so they would have to pay for hot lunches for them.  The lunches were 25 cents.
Around 1985 she had a dog named Whiskie.  She all loved the dog very much.

Thelma gave many hours of service.  She taught her children in the 4-H program.  Served in the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society.  She made many meals for those who was in need and also made many cakes for those who had lost a love one.  

Lottie passed away March 9, 1992.

Thelma passed away Tuesday November 25, 2003 in Clearfield.  She surrounded herself with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Thelma had 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  

Family will be at Mitchell Funeral home Friday night from 6-8 pm. and 1 hour prior to services
Funeral service was Saturday, November 29, 2003
.   at the Helper LDS Stake Center.
